How should I supply a shot list?

If you have specific requirements, a clear visual shot list should be provided, which can be ticked off on set. If you prefer to supply a mood board or some rough ideas, we’re very happy to experiment!

Can I art direct remotely?

Of course! Bear in mind that time spent on feedback may reduce shooting time and the number of finished shots.

How many finished shots will I get?

Different kinds of shots take very different amounts of time, so shot numbers and prices are based on your brief and agreed prior to the shoot.
As a guide, a typical simple shoot with 20 images costs around £480, while a typical bigger or more varied shoot comes to around £960.

Will the photographed colours match my artwork?

We use a colour calibrated workflow, from camera profiling with colour targets on set, to a calibrated screen for processing and retouch. This system gets colours 90% correct but the real-world nature of photography, our lighting and the limitations of colour spaces, means that some colours will reproduce more accurately than others. Our prices include a colour match by eye during retouch, using your samples under a daylight print viewing lamp to match on-screen. This improves colour matching as close as possible, while still allowing creativity in lighting and framing. Still life photography is a balance between accurate repro and creative pictures. Overall, our approach leans towards creative photography and the use of profiles and colour adjustments during retouch to make up for any impact on repro. Given that most people view images on uncalibrated screens, we’re super happy with 90% colour accuracy and that’s what we offer.

What are your turnaround times?

Once we receive a brief and your items we will book in a shoot. Turnarounds are generally between 1-2 weeks, but we can usually work to a shorter deadline if images are needed urgently. Rush charges may apply for extreme deadlines but we’ll do everything we can to meet your schedule!

How should I send my items and will I get them back?

We recommend Parcelforce for reliable and affordable courier services. Alternatively, we find Parcel2Go is a good agent for other couriers. For same day couriers, we use Gophr. Please ensure your items are packaged carefully and bear in mind that the same packaging will be re-used for the return courier. We can arrange return and add costs to the invoice. If your project is too delicate to post, we can collect and drop off in person for a carriage fee.

Will my items be damaged during shooting?

Handling on set can sometimes leave marks and minor damage, particularly in the case of holding stubborn books open or fixing items in position. We will always do our best to look after your projects and have many secret tricks for this, but it’s best to expect a little wear. If you have a particularly delicate or precious item, we can accommodate this on request. We cannot take responsibility for damage (sorry!) so please
do insure items if required.

Will pictures appear consistent across different shoots?

Definitely! If requested we can set up recipes for your photography, so that future shoots will match previous ones exactly in terms of style, colour, composition and any other requirements you may have.

What usage does the image licence cover?

The standard copyright licence we provide allows your company to use pictures for any Below The Line purposes, forever and in the UK. Below the Line covers social media, website, brochure and small print, business to business, e-mail marketing, press and PR. It does not cover Above The Line usage, such as large scale public advertising campaigns or use outside the UK, and it does not allow for sharing images with other businesses. If you need an extended licence we’ll be happy to arrange one - please get in touch for a quote.

Can my collaborators or my client use the images for their own promotion?

Our prices are low because they cover a basic usage licence, which only covers the commissioning party. If you would like to share images with other businesses we can quote on request. If you want to share with a collaborator, such as a designer or printer you worked with on a project, we can offer a special discounted licence for £150 per collaborator. This can be invoiced to directly to the collaborator if requested.

Can you shoot at my location?

Yes! As long as you have enough room and don’t mind flash photography, we can visit with our pop-up studio. Most shoots need a minimum floor space of 4sqm and ceiling height of 2.4m, as well as a clean, flat floor surface. If in doubt we can advise. Pricing is based on your brief with an additional £200 fee for the pop-up studio call out.

Can I attend the shoot at Cræft Studio?

Unfortunately we can’t accommodate visitors at our studio - sorry!

Can you shoot products for a client project?

Yes! Our online prices are aimed at small to medium businesses in the design, print and publishing industries. Client projects are quoted separately depending on usage needs, so please get in touch and let us know what you need!
